Waack Girls Drama Series Set for Release on Prime Video
A new series titled “Waack Girls” is making its debut on the streaming platform Prime Video, scheduled for release on November 22. This drama series is created and directed by Sooni Taraporevala and features a stellar cast including Mekhola Bose, Anasua Chowdhury, Barun Chanda, Lillete Dubey, and the late Nitesh Pandey in significant roles.
“Waack Girls” is set against the vibrant backdrop of Kolkata and revolves around six young women who boldly create a dance group in a city and country unfamiliar with their chosen dance style, waacking. The group, named “Waack Girls,” is led by Ishani, portrayed by Mekhola Bose, an expert waacker and the group’s choreographer, and Lopa, played by Rytasha Rathore, their passionate and resourceful manager. The series captures their journey both on and off the dance floor as they navigate personal struggles, family expectations, and societal norms.
Sooni Taraporevala, the director, shared her inspiration for the show, saying, “I was captivated by waacking when I first saw Mekhola Bose dance. This story is unconventional and fun, and I am thrilled to present ‘Waack Girls’ to the world.”
Taraporevala emphasized that “Waack Girls” is not just a dance show. Each character has distinct issues and challenges that will resonate with viewers, who may identify with one or more of the girls. Despite their differences, the girls share a common defiance and fearlessness, living life on their own terms and claiming their hard-won space.
Expressing her gratitude, Sooni Taraporevala thanked Prime Video, the dedicated team behind the show, and the talented cast for their hard work in bringing her vision to life. She eagerly anticipates audiences dancing along with the series.
