Deadpool & Wolverine Poised to Shatter Box Office Records with $200M+ R-Rated Opening Projection
With six weeks to go before its theatrical premiere, “Deadpool & Wolverine” is already making waves in the industry. The R-rated Marvel film, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, is projected to open with a staggering $200-$239 million domestically, according to a new report by The Quorum.
This projection marks an unprecedented milestone for R-rated movies, setting a new standard for the genre and revitalizing the struggling box office economy. The film’s potential to break records comes from the massive fan demand and the star power of Reynolds and Jackman, who bring their iconic characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for the first time.
The film’s estimated opening would eclipse the previous R-rated record held by the first “Deadpool” film, which debuted with $132.4 million in February 2016. Notably, “Deadpool & Wolverine” is positioned as Deadpool’s official entry into the MCU, following Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox.
If these projections hold, “Deadpool & Wolverine” could also surpass Disney/Pixar’s “Inside Out 2,” which is expected to open with $100 million this weekend, becoming the highest opening of the summer.
The Quorum’s data reveals that 66% of people are interested in seeing the film, with 61% preferring to watch it in theaters and 77% willing to pay for a premium format experience. This strong pre-release interest indicates that the film’s final numbers could exceed even the most optimistic projections.
As the July 26 release date approaches, all eyes are on “Deadpool & Wolverine” to see if it can deliver on its record-breaking potential and set a new benchmark for R-rated movies in the MCU.
