Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed has once again found himself in the spotlight after issuing a surprising challenge to former Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan — not on the cricket field, but in a boxing ring. The unexpected statement, made during a light-hearted interview on a Pakistani YouTube channel, has gone viral, igniting intense discussions and memes across social media.

During the chat, the 27-year-old leg-spinner was asked which player he would most like to face in a boxing match. Without hesitation, Abrar named Dhawan, saying, “I want to box, and I want Shikhar Dhawan standing in front of me.” The clip spread like wildfire, with fans from both nations reacting with a mix of amusement and criticism.

The timing of the comment added to the buzz, coming shortly after India’s victory over Pakistan in the 2025 Asia Cup final in Dubai. India chased down 147 in a thrilling finish, recovering from 20/3 to win with two balls remaining. Young star Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 69 and Shivam Dube’s gritty 33 anchored the chase, while Kuldeep Yadav’s 4/30 dismantled Pakistan’s batting order. Abrar, who picked up one wicket in the match, celebrated his dismissal of Sanju Samson with his signature gesture — which some interpreted as directed at the Indian dugout.

After India’s win, Indian players Arshdeep Singh, Jitesh Sharma, and Harshit Rana were seen mimicking Abrar’s celebration, further fueling online banter. Arshdeep even posted a clip with the caption: “No context.”

Shikhar Dhawan, known for his composed personality and ever-positive demeanor, has not responded publicly to Abrar’s challenge. Dhawan, who retired from international cricket last year, remains one of India’s most consistent white-ball players, scoring 6793 runs in 167 ODIs and 1759 runs in 68 T20Is.

Social media, however, hasn’t missed a beat. Memes, mock posters titled “Dhawan vs Abrar: The Ultimate Face-Off”, and fan debates have flooded platforms like X and Instagram. While some see Abrar’s comments as playful humor, others believe they cross a line, especially considering the intensity of India-Pakistan cricket rivalry.

Whether taken as light-hearted fun or unnecessary provocation, Abrar Ahmed’s remarks have once again shown how easily off-field comments can spark fire between two of cricket’s most passionate fan bases.
