While initial reports placed blame on director David O Russell for inappropriate behavior, studio representatives have responded with a different perspective. The studio claims that the racial term mentioned in the scene was never actually spoken by Russell and that its inclusion had been proposed by the actor himself for the context of the monologue. It was later removed from the script altogether. The studio also clarified that the nude scene in question was communicated clearly in advance, and an intimacy coordinator was assigned to help the actor navigate the scene professionally.
