Andrew Garfield has hinted at a possible return to the Spider-Man universe—but only under one condition. During his appearance at the Middle East Film & Comic Con the actor shared that he’s open to reprising his role as the web-slinging superhero if the storyline is bold unconventional and creatively free.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight as reported by Variety Garfield stated that his comeback would need to be “very weird” and driven by originality much like the animated Spider-Verse movies which are known for their inventive storytelling. He emphasized the importance of unique and surprising elements if he’s to return as Peter Parker.
“I’d like to do something very strange very offbeat and unexpected like what the Spider-Verse films do with creative liberty” said the two-time Oscar nominee.
Garfield’s previous stint as Spider-Man ended abruptly after The Amazing Spider-Man 2 failed to impress at the box office. In an earlier interview with Esquire he expressed disappointment about how his chapter concluded stating he felt “left dangling.”
Despite that abrupt end fans still hold strong affection for his version of Spider-Man—something that became clear when he made a surprise appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. His return alongside Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland created massive buzz and contributed to the film’s record-breaking success at the global box office.
Before the film’s release Garfield had consistently denied rumors about his role in No Way Home to maintain suspense. The secrecy paid off making his return one of the most talked-about moments in recent superhero cinema.
Looking ahead Tom Holland is gearing up to film the fourth installment of his Spider-Man journey. Sony Pictures has revealed that the movie will be titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day and is scheduled for a theatrical release on July 31 2026.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna—who also wrote No Way Home—the film will draw inspiration from the 2008 comic book arc where a major event wipes out the world’s memory of Spider-Man’s true identity. This theme perfectly aligns with the cliffhanger ending of No Way Home where Peter Parker is forgotten by everyone.
While there’s no official confirmation yet fans speculate that Garfield could make a cameo in Brand New Day adding another layer of excitement to the upcoming Marvel epic.
