Hollywood icon Angelina Jolie has expressed deep admiration for her Broadway production The Outsiders, calling it an “extraordinary” and emotionally powerful experience. The actress, who co-produced the show, shared her thoughts as the musical prepares to embark on a massive North American tour, beginning on October 8, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Adapted from the classic 1967 novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton and inspired by the 1983 film of the same name, the musical tells the moving story of Ponyboy Curtis, his brothers, and best friend Johnny Cade as they navigate themes of friendship, class division, and belonging.
During a conversation shared on YouTube, Angelina Jolie and the show’s director Danya Taymor reflected on the production’s journey. Taymor highlighted how the story unites people from various backgrounds—across race, age, religion, and politics—in a shared emotional experience. Jolie responded by noting the show’s global relevance, saying, “It’s a uniquely American story, but I’ve found it extraordinary how deeply it resonates around the world.”
Jolie explained that the struggles faced by the characters—about identity, family, and social class—mirror challenges experienced in many cultures. “Every community has faced moments of separation and division,” she said, emphasizing that The Outsiders helps audiences see their shared humanity.
The Broadway production first opened on April 11, 2024, and became an instant success, earning four Tony Awards. The upcoming North American tour will visit over 30 cities through September 2026, bringing the musical’s powerful message to a wider audience.
The touring cast includes Banal Fambrini, Tyler Jordan Wesley, Jaydon Nget, Mark Doyle, Jackson Reagin, and Nolan White, among others. Jolie also shared that she believes the show will connect with audiences of all ages, adding that “even those who are dragged along by someone else will end up falling in love with it.”
With its heartfelt performances, stunning direction, and timeless story, The Outsiders continues to prove why it’s one of Broadway’s most impactful musicals of recent years.
