Apple has begun releasing its latest firmware update alongside iOS 26, bringing several new features to AirPods Pro 3 AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4. The rollout follows Apple’s September 9 launch event where the company introduced the AirPods Pro 3, and it continues Apple’s tradition of upgrading its wireless earphones through annual firmware improvements.

The new firmware version 8A356 integrates tightly with iOS 26 iPadOS 26 and macOS Tahoe, giving users up to seven fresh capabilities designed to improve usability, audio quality, and connectivity. Among the highlights are sleep detection with automatic playback pause, charging notifications, seamless CarPlay switching, real-time Live Translation, studio-quality audio recording, a Camera Remote function, and improved voice clarity on calls.

One of the most notable upgrades is the new sleep detection feature, which pauses music, podcasts, or audiobooks automatically when the listener dozes off. Users also benefit from new charging reminders that alert them when the AirPods case battery is low or fully charged.

For the first time, AirPods can now auto-switch their Bluetooth connections to CarPlay, making the in-car audio experience more convenient than ever. Premium models like AirPods Pro 3 AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 2 also gain exclusive extras, including the beta launch of Live Translation. Powered by Apple Intelligence, this feature supports real-time conversations across multiple languages.

Audio recording has been upgraded to Apple’s new “studio-quality” standard, delivering sharper and more refined sound for both personal and professional use. Another major addition is Camera Remote, which allows users to take photos or videos by squeezing the AirPods stems—a functionality similar to Apple Watch’s camera controller.

Finally, voice quality during calls has been enhanced, ensuring clearer conversations across supported AirPods models. These improvements further solidify Apple’s AirPods lineup as one of the most advanced in the true wireless earbuds market.
