Apple has officially introduced the iPhone Air, its slimmest smartphone to date, during the much-anticipated ‘Awe Dropping’ launch event on September 9, 2025. Measuring just 5.6mm, the iPhone Air sets a new benchmark in smartphone design, showcasing Apple’s relentless pursuit of thinness, elegance, and innovation.

Powered by the cutting-edge A19 Pro chip, the iPhone Air comes with a 6.5-inch ProMotion display, a polished titanium frame, and iOS 26 out of the box. Apple executives including CEO Tim Cook, VP of Industrial Design Molly Anderson, and VP of Human Interface Design Alan Dye spoke in detail about the vision behind this ultra-thin device in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.

Molly Anderson described the iPhone Air as a “razor-thin” smartphone that Apple has been dreaming about for years. She highlighted how the device delivers a shockingly thin build while maintaining durability and performance. Alan Dye added that the design brings Apple closer to its vision of creating a “singular piece of glass,” a concept that Steve Jobs had once imagined.

Apple executives emphasized that the iPhone Air is not just about sleekness, but also about offering users a choice — between the Pro models designed as powerful tools for creators and the Air model built for those who value portability, minimalism, and elegance. To further distinguish the lineup, Apple introduced a Cosmic Orange color for the iPhone 17 Pro models, alongside classic finishes such as silver and dark blue.

The company also acknowledged a cultural trend among younger iPhone users who style their phones as fashion accessories. With this in mind, Apple has launched a new range of cases and cross-body straps that complement the slim iPhone Air and other devices in the iPhone 17 lineup.

When asked whether the iPhone Air could be a step toward Apple’s first foldable iPhone, Tim Cook kept details under wraps, remarking only that “Apple is very good at keeping secrets.”

The iPhone Air features a 48MP rear camera and an 18MP front-facing camera, making it a strong contender for photography enthusiasts despite its slim frame. It will be available for purchase starting next week at a base price of ₹1,19,900 in India, with multiple configurations and EMI offers.

This launch positions the iPhone Air as both a design marvel and a lifestyle statement, pushing the boundaries of what consumers expect from a smartphone while keeping Apple’s innovation legacy alive.
