Apple’s updated US website has stirred debate among Mac users after the company quietly changed the compatibility requirements for Apple Intelligence. While the AI platform was originally announced with support for Macs powered by the M1 chip and above, the US listing now states that an M2-equipped Mac — or newer — is required to access the system’s AI capabilities.

Apple Intelligence, introduced at WWDC 2024, brings powerful on-device AI tools focused on privacy, writing assistance, image creation, email management, smart replies, enhanced Siri features and more. Since its debut, the rollout has extended across supported iPhone, iPad and Mac models throughout 2024 and 2025.

The sudden adjustment on the US webpage mentions “Mac with M2 or later,” contradicting Apple’s UK and India websites, which still list M1-based Macs as compatible. Several Apple support pages also continue to state “Mac with M1 or later,” suggesting the US update may have been unintentional.

For iPhone users, requirements remain unaffected — only the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max can currently run Apple Intelligence. On the iPad side, the iPad Pro and iPad Air with M1 or newer continue to be listed as supported devices.

As Apple has not officially clarified whether the M2-only mention is a genuine policy shift or a publishing mistake, users remain uncertain about long-term compatibility. Until Apple issues a statement, the discrepancy between regional websites continues to raise questions about the final hardware requirements for Apple Intelligence.
