Arsenal’s Premier League campaign suffered a major setback on Saturday as captain Martin Odegaard limped off just 18 minutes into the clash against Nottingham Forest at the Emirates Stadium. The Norwegian midfielder appeared to aggravate a recurring shoulder problem following a collision with teammate Jurrien Timber, forcing manager Mikel Arteta to introduce youngster Ethan Nwaneri early in the game.

The injury comes at a pivotal moment, with the Gunners preparing to face reigning champions Manchester City next weekend in a highly anticipated fixture that could influence the early title race. Odegaard’s fitness has been a talking point since August when he first picked up the shoulder issue against Leeds. He missed Arsenal’s defeat at Anfield before the international break but returned for Norway, where he impressed with a goal and assist in an 11-1 thrashing of Moldova. Despite his return to full 90-minute action, his domestic campaign has once again been interrupted.

Arteta’s injury concerns are mounting, with Christian Norgaard, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel Jesus already sidelined, while Bukayo Saka is struggling with a hamstring issue. With Champions League fixtures adding to an intense schedule, the Arsenal boss admitted before the Forest match that squad rotation will be crucial to managing fitness levels.

Despite Odegaard’s setback, Arsenal’s new signings provided plenty of positives. Martin Zubimendi scored twice, including a stunning volley and a commanding header, while Leandro Trossard, Viktor Gyokeres, and Eberechi Eze impressed in a dominant 3-0 win that sent the Gunners top of the table. It marked their third clean sheet in four games, while Nottingham Forest slipped to 11th following consecutive defeats.
