World number one Aryna Sabalenka proved her dominance once again as she successfully defended her US Open crown by defeating Amanda Anisimova in straight sets. The Belarusian star claimed her fourth career Grand Slam with a commanding 6-3, 7-6 (7/3) win on the iconic Arthur Ashe Stadium court in New York.

Sabalenka entered the 2025 US Open final under immense pressure, having fallen short in both the Australian Open and French Open earlier this year. Determined to seize her last Grand Slam opportunity of the season, she displayed resilience and power against an opponent who had beaten her in six of their previous nine encounters.

The opening set saw Sabalenka take early control, capitalizing on Anisimova’s inconsistent serve. Although the American eighth seed briefly rallied with powerful groundstrokes to level the score, Sabalenka quickly regained her composure, breaking serve twice to secure the set 6-3.

In the second set, Sabalenka again struck early but was pegged back as Anisimova showed flashes of brilliance, breaking to level the contest at 3-3. However, crucial errors from Anisimova, including double faults and missed opportunities on break points, allowed Sabalenka to regain momentum. Serving at 5-4, Sabalenka missed a chance to close out the match after an uncharacteristic error, but she quickly recovered her focus in the tiebreak.

The 27-year-old extended her remarkable record by clinching her 19th consecutive tiebreak, surging ahead 6-1 before sealing the championship in just over 90 minutes.

Speaking after the match, Sabalenka described the triumph as the sweetest of her career: “It’s crazy, all those tough lessons were worth it for this one. I’m speechless right now.”

For Anisimova, the loss was another painful setback following her Wimbledon final defeat earlier this summer. “Losing two finals in a row is tough, but it’s also a lesson,” she admitted. “I didn’t fight hard enough for my dream today.”

With this victory, Sabalenka cements her place at the top of women’s tennis and continues to showcase her ability to deliver in high-pressure matches, reinforcing her status as one of the game’s greatest competitors.
