The holy month of Ramadan is one of the most important periods of the year for Muslims around the world and especially for residents in Dubai and across the United Arab Emirates. During this sacred month Muslims fast daily from dawn until sunset for either 29 or 30 days while dedicating time to prayer charity and spiritual reflection.
The Islamic calendar also known as the Hijri calendar is based on lunar cycles which means the start and end of months depend on the sighting of the moon rather than the solar based Gregorian calendar used internationally. Because of this the exact end date of Ramadan is officially confirmed only after the moon sighting announcement.
Ramadan 2026 began on Wednesday February 18 following confirmation from the moon sighting committee in the UAE. Astronomers have now shared predictions about when the fasting month may conclude.
Experts from the International Astronomy Centre believe the final day of Ramadan could fall on Thursday March 19. If this prediction is correct the festival of Eid al-Fitr would begin on Friday March 20.
According to astronomical calculations the crescent moon of Shawwal may be visible to the naked eye in the UAE on March 19 which would signal the conclusion of Ramadan.
However another estimate shared by the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department suggests that Ramadan could last 29 days and may therefore finish on Wednesday March 18.
These timelines remain predictions and the official end of Ramadan will only be confirmed through moon sighting announcements shortly before the conclusion of the month.
The final day of fasting leads directly into the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, one of the most important Islamic festivals. The holiday marks the completion of the fasting month and is celebrated with prayers family gatherings and festive meals.
Authorities in the UAE have already confirmed that the Eid Al Fitr public holiday will begin on Thursday March 19 for both public and private sector employees. This announcement means residents can expect a long weekend of four days across the country depending on the final confirmation of Ramadan’s end.
