Hollywood actor Austin Butler has shared a shocking health scare he experienced while preparing for his role in The Bikeriders, directed by Jeff Nichols. The Elvis star revealed he went temporarily blind for a few minutes after being struck by a severe migraine on a flight to Cincinnati, Ohio, just before filming began.
Austin Butler’s Health Ordeal Before Filming
In an interview with Men’s Health, Butler recalled the frightening episode, describing how he suddenly lost his vision mid-flight.
“It felt like life was being sucked from my body. I had a euphoric rush and I genuinely thought I was dying,” Butler explained. Thankfully, his vision gradually returned, and he went straight to set to begin work despite the terrifying moment.
The actor attributed the health scare to sleep deprivation, noting how intense schedules had pushed his body to the limit.
About The Bikeriders
Nichols’ upcoming film, inspired by Danny Lyon’s 1968 photo book, follows the rise of the fictional Vandals MC, a Midwest motorcycle club that transforms from a brotherhood for outsiders into a notorious gang. Butler plays one of the key roles in this gritty drama.
Reflecting on his career, the Oscar nominee admitted he once believed acting had to be a “tortured process” that left him emotionally drained. He credited actress Laura Dern for teaching him that acting can also be therapeutic and healing.
Austin Butler on His Viral Dance Moment with Bad Bunny
Beyond his on-screen roles, Butler recently went viral for his dance moves at Bad Bunny’s Puerto Rico concert, where he appeared alongside director Darren Aronofsky.
The actor revealed on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon that he unexpectedly ended up on a side stage during the concert after taking an edible. “I thought I’d just be in the audience, but suddenly I’m on stage, and the edible is working,” Butler laughed.
Caught between not wanting to steal the spotlight and being swept up by the energy of Puerto Rican culture, Butler swayed subtly with his arms crossed. The viral clip showed fans another side of the star, who admitted he doesn’t usually like being the center of attention.
