Spain’s dynamic attacking midfielder Dani Olmo has made a significant move to LaLiga giants Barcelona, signing a six-year contract after departing Bundesliga’s RB Leipzig. Olmo, who is now 26, has returned to the club where he honed his skills in the youth academy for seven years before his transfer to Dinamo Zagreb at the age of 16. Barcelona, gearing up for their domestic season opener against Valencia next week, welcomed Olmo back into their ranks with a contract that extends until June 2030.

Although the financial details of the transfer were not publicly disclosed, media reports suggest a fee of approximately 55 million euros (around $60 million). The Catalan club has also set Olmo’s buy-out clause at a hefty 500 million euros, emphasizing their commitment to keeping the Euro 2024 champion in their squad.

Olmo played a crucial role in Spain’s Euro 2024 victory, emerging as one of the tournament’s top scorers with three goals. He was also one of six Spanish players honored in UEFA’s team of the tournament. The versatile midfielder announced his departure from RB Leipzig earlier on Friday, reflecting on his time at the club where he made 148 appearances, netting 29 goals, and securing two German Cups and the Super Cup. “The moments I’ve lived at RB Leipzig, including two Cups and the Super Cup, are memories I’ll cherish forever. Thank you, RB Leipzig, you’ll always have a place in my heart,” Olmo shared on social media.
