Barry Keoghan, a renowned British actor, has been chosen to play the role of Ringo Starr, the drummer of The Beatles, in an upcoming film series directed by Sam Mendes. This exciting news was confirmed by Ringo Starr himself. Mendes plans to create a four-part film series that will delve into the story of the iconic band, with each film focusing on the perspective of a different member of The Beatles.
Barry Keoghan, known for his performances in “The Banshees of Inisherin” and “Saltburn,” will take on the role of a young Ringo Starr. Starr, in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, expressed his enthusiasm about Keoghan’s casting, mentioning that the actor is currently learning to play the drums to prepare for the role.
Sam Mendes, the acclaimed director behind films like “American Beauty,” “Road to Perdition,” and “1917,” describes this Beatles project as a revolutionary approach to filmmaking, challenging traditional notions of what a movie experience entails. The films will collectively narrate the extraordinary journey of The Beatles, culminating in their breakup in 1970.
The families of Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the late John Lennon and George Harrison have granted Mendes access to the full life story and music rights for the films. There are also rumors that Paul Mescal and Joseph Quinn are in discussions to portray Paul McCartney and George Harrison, while Harris Dickinson is being considered for the role of John Lennon.
Sam Mendes will produce the series through Neal Street Productions, alongside Pippa Harris and Julie Pastor.
The Beatles, formed in Liverpool in 1960, quickly rose to global fame and became the top music act worldwide from 1963 to 1966. Despite their breakup in 1970, each member achieved significant solo success.
