Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are officially reuniting for the fourth chapter of The Mummy franchise, bringing back the beloved duo that first captured audiences in the 1999 action adventure classic. As reported by Variety, the new film will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the filmmaking team recognized for Ready or Not and the recent revival of the Scream series.
Fans have flooded social media with excitement as the original pair prepares to return to the long-running action saga after their last appearance together in The Mummy Returns in 2001. The characters played by Fraser and Weisz helped shape the success of the franchise, which follows a supernatural threat rising in Egypt as a courageous explorer and archaeologist fight to prevent global destruction.
The series later continued with The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in 2008, where Weisz did not reprise her role. A separate reboot featuring Tom Cruise released in 2017 failed to revive the franchise as intended.
Brendan Fraser has recently experienced a career resurgence, winning widespread praise for his Oscar-winning role in The Whale, along with appearances in Killers of the Flower Moon and Brothers. His latest performance premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in the Japanese feature Rental Family directed by Hikari.
Rachel Weisz has also maintained a strong career, earning major recognition for roles in The Constant Gardener and The Favourite. She was last seen in Marvel’s Black Widow and starred in the psychological series Dead Ringers in 2023. With both stars returning to a franchise that helped launch their global fame, anticipation for The Mummy 4 continues to build among fans worldwide.
