Busan, South Korea’s second-largest city and a sister city to Dubai, has been sending the “Eurasia Diplomatic Corps” annually since 2016 as a public diplomacy delegation. This group, consisting of university students, cultural artists, and businesspeople from Busan, travels to Busan’s sister cities around the world to engage in cultural and economic exchange events. Their mission is to promote Busan as a significant global hub city.
This year, the delegation will visit Almaty in Kazakhstan, Tashkent and Samarkand in Uzbekistan, and finally, Dubai. The visit to Dubai will culminate in the ‘Busan Fest in Dubai’ event on Sunday, September 29, starting at 6:30 PM at Dubai Festival City Mall. This festival aims to celebrate the friendship between the two cities and will feature performances by the Busan Metropolitan Traditional Orchestra, a Taekwondo performance team, various prize events, and activities. No pre-registration is required, and anyone who appreciates Korean culture is welcome to join and enjoy the festivities.
Activities:
Busan, with a population of 3.5 million, is South Korea’s largest maritime city, centered around Busan Port. It boasts a thriving maritime trade and logistics industry and is a renowned tourist destination that attracts visitors globally. Dubai, sharing many similarities with Busan, is home to the largest port in the Middle East and serves as a global hub for tourism and finance. The sister-city relationship between Busan and Dubai was established on November 13, 2006. To celebrate the 15th anniversary of their partnership in 2021, both cities held a joint photo exhibition and the “Lights on! Busan-Dubai” event, where landmarks in both cities were illuminated to commemorate the occasion.
