World number one Carlos Alcaraz has officially ended his long-standing coaching partnership with former Grand Slam champion Juan Carlos Ferrero, bringing an emotional seven-year collaboration to a close. The Spanish tennis star confirmed the decision through a message shared on social media, marking the end of one of the most successful player-coach relationships in modern tennis.
Ferrero began mentoring Alcaraz when he was just 15 years old and played a pivotal role in shaping him into a dominant force on the ATP Tour. Under Ferrero’s guidance, Alcaraz captured six Grand Slam titles including multiple triumphs at the French Open Wimbledon and the US Open. He also collected 24 tour-level trophies with eight Masters 1000 titles and became the youngest player in history to reach world number one after winning the US Open in 2022.
In his message, the 22-year-old reflected on their shared journey, thanking Ferrero for turning childhood dreams into reality and for supporting him both on and off the court. Ferrero also issued a heartfelt statement, describing the split as a difficult moment and expressing pride in everything they achieved together.
Alcaraz has not yet confirmed whether he will appoint a new head coach. In recent seasons, Samuel Lopez had already joined his team alongside Ferrero. Earlier this month, Ferrero and Lopez were jointly named ATP Coaches of the Year after helping Alcaraz reclaim the top ranking and enjoy a career-best season with 71 match wins and eight titles.
Despite the separation, both expressed mutual respect and optimism for the future, leaving the door open for their paths to cross again.
