Carlos Alcaraz has added another prestigious title to his growing list of accolades by securing his first Monte Carlo Masters championship with a hard-fought victory over Lorenzo Musetti. The Spanish tennis star, currently ranked World No 3, staged a remarkable comeback to defeat the Italian with a 3-6 6-1 6-0 scoreline in Sunday’s final.

This win marks Alcaraz’s sixth Masters 1000 title and is his most significant trophy since his Wimbledon triumph last year. The 21-year-old, a four-time Grand Slam champion, demonstrated resilience and brilliance throughout the tournament and will now ascend to World No 2 in the ATP rankings, overtaking Alexander Zverev.

Reflecting on the emotional journey, Alcaraz said, “I’m really proud of how I’ve handled everything this week. It’s been a difficult month both on and off the court. Winning here at Monte Carlo proves that all the effort has been worth it.” He also acknowledged the challenges faced in earlier rounds and expressed gratitude for finally conquering a tournament that previously eluded him.

In the final, Musetti initially stunned the Spaniard by taking the first set, showing grit after overcoming two top ten players—Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alex de Minaur—en route to his first Masters final. However, the momentum swiftly shifted as Alcaraz found his rhythm, dominating the second set and cruising through the decider.

Musetti struggled physically in the final stages, receiving medical attention for a right leg issue when trailing 0-3 in the third set. Despite his determination, he couldn’t match Alcaraz’s intensity and pace. Post-match, Alcaraz praised his opponent’s efforts, stating, “Lorenzo played incredible all week. It’s unfortunate to see him struggle at the end, but I hope he recovers quickly and returns stronger.”

Although Musetti couldn’t clinch the title, he earned a career-best ranking of World No 11 and showed promising form as the clay season builds towards the French Open. Speaking to fans after the match, Musetti said, “This has been one of my best tournaments. I’m disappointed I couldn’t finish as I hoped but I’ll keep fighting and return for more.”
