Singer Chappell Roan sparked widespread conversation after making a bold fashion statement at the 68th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. The artist appeared on the red carpet wearing a sheer custom Mugler gown featuring nipple ring accents a look that quickly drew strong reactions across social media. While some viewers expressed shock at the revealing outfit Roan firmly stood by her choice and addressed the discussion directly on her Instagram account.
Sharing photos from the evening Chappell Roan explained that she did not find the outfit extreme and described it as creative unusual and empowering. She encouraged fans to embrace personal freedom and individuality adding that expressing oneself should be fun and unapologetic. The singer also thanked the Recording Academy and voters for welcoming her back to the Grammys.
The striking garnet-toned ensemble was designed by French luxury fashion house Mugler under creative direction from Miguel Castro Freitas and styled by Genesis Webb. The chiffon gown featured no bodice and was paired with a flowing cape which Roan used when she wanted a more covered appearance. The look drew inspiration from Mugler’s iconic Spring Summer 1998 couture collection by Manfred Thierry Mugler.
Later in the ceremony Chappell Roan changed into a more understated archival Rodarte dress when she took the stage to present the Best New Artist award which was won by Olivia Dean. Although Roan was nominated this year for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for her single The Subway she did not win in either category.
The 68th Grammy Awards saw Kendrick Lamar dominate the night with five wins including Record of the Year while Billie Eilish claimed Song of the Year for Wildflower. Bad Bunny also made history by winning Album of the Year marking the first time a fully Spanish language album received the top honor.
