Hollywood star Charlie Sheen is making headlines once again as he prepares for the release of his highly anticipated memoir The Book of Sheen and his two-part Netflix documentary aka Charlie Sheen, set to premiere next week.

The 60-year-old actor, who has proudly maintained sobriety for nearly eight years, collaborated with filmmaker Andrew Renzi to document the highs and lows of his life and career. Unlike previous offers from studios that Sheen turned down, this project resonated with him because of its unique perspective. Sheen revealed that Renzi’s approach helped him see his own journey in a way he had never considered before.

The premiere of aka Charlie Sheen was recently held in Los Angeles, drawing attention from fans and industry insiders. The series includes interviews with key people from Sheen’s life, including his former wife Denise Richards, longtime friend Sean Penn, brother Ramon Estevez, and former Hollywood figure Heidi Fleiss. What makes the project even more unusual is the inclusion of Marco Abeta, Sheen’s former drug dealer, who played an unexpected yet pivotal role in his past.

Speaking about the decision, Sheen admitted that it was surprising even to him and Renzi: “We used to ask ourselves, which other documentary has ever featured the dealer’s perspective? You never do. So we thought, why not ask?” According to Sheen, Abeta agreed without hesitation, provided he trusted the director to present his story responsibly.

Director Renzi also noted that Abeta became an important figure in Sheen’s recovery. Surprisingly, the dealer himself influenced Sheen’s decision to leave drugs behind, even aligning with the actor’s father Martin Sheen and therapists to help guide him toward sobriety.

Although not every aspect of Sheen’s turbulent past could be covered due to unavailable voices from that time, the Netflix project promises raw honesty, emotional storytelling, and new insights into the life of one of Hollywood’s most controversial figures.
