Renowned American artist Cindy Sherman has created the official poster for the 79th edition of the Locarno Film Festival, offering a bold visual statement that blends identity performance and artistic transformation. The newly revealed artwork presents a dramatic black and white portrait of a constructed character wrapped in a vivid yellow leopard print scarf.
The design reimagines the festival’s iconic leopard symbol which represents its prestigious top award the Golden Leopard. Through her signature approach Cindy Sherman transforms the emblem into a layered visual narrative exploring themes of disguise glamour and self creation.
Festival president Maja Hoffmann praised Sherman’s influence highlighting how her work challenges traditional perceptions of identity by using photography as a tool to question reality rather than simply capture it.
Artistic director Giona A. Nazzaro emphasized that the poster reflects the growing importance of self expression in a world shaped by digital culture and shifting truths.
