Chelsea pulled off a stunning victory to lift the first-ever 32-team FIFA Club World Cup trophy after a remarkable performance saw them crush European champions Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 at the MetLife Stadium in the United States. Star forward Cole Palmer was the hero of the night, scoring two goals and providing an assist to seal a memorable win for the Blues in front of more than 81,000 fans, including US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.

Despite PSG coming into the final with massive confidence after dismantling Real Madrid 4-0 in the semis, they found themselves stunned by Chelsea’s intensity and clinical finishing. Palmer broke the deadlock midway through the first half, slotting home after Malo Gusto’s shot rebounded kindly. Just minutes later, Palmer doubled Chelsea’s lead with a composed strike into the bottom corner after being released down the right flank.

PSG’s defence crumbled further before halftime when Palmer turned provider for Joao Pedro, who calmly guided the ball past Gianluigi Donnarumma to make it 3-0 before the break. The second half saw tensions flare as Paris struggled to find any rhythm. Their frustration peaked when Joao Neves was sent off after a VAR check showed him pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair off the ball.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca praised his young match-winner, saying that Palmer delivered when it mattered most, cementing his reputation as one of the Blues’ biggest stars. “Cole is the player you want in big games like this. He delivered once again and made the difference,” said Maresca.

PSG coach Luis Enrique found himself at the centre of controversy when he was seen raising his arm towards Joao Pedro in the post-match scuffle. He later claimed he was simply trying to calm tensions. For PSG, the result was a bitter pill to swallow after a dominant season in Europe that saw them lift the Champions League and the domestic double.

Chelsea’s triumph secures them around $125 million in prize money, capping off a remarkable season in which they also won the UEFA Conference League and finished fourth in the Premier League. PSG will look to bounce back quickly as they face Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Super Cup in just a few weeks.

The night was also notable for its electric atmosphere at MetLife Stadium with the Manhattan skyline providing a dramatic backdrop for a final that few could have predicted would end so emphatically in Chelsea’s favour.
