Cristiano Ronaldo Reflects on 1000-Goal Ambition and Embraces Living in the Present

Date:

Cristiano Ronaldo has stated that reaching the 1000-goal milestone would be an incredible achievement, yet he would still consider himself content even if he doesn’t achieve it, as he remains the top goal-scorer in history. The Portuguese football legend has acknowledged that he is at a stage in his career where long-term goals are no longer his focus. Ronaldo, who holds the record for the most goals in professional football, had previously set a personal target of scoring 1000 goals before retiring. However, he has recently decided to ease the pressure of such expectations and concentrate on enjoying the present moment.

Ronaldo, who plays for Al Nassr, is the first footballer to surpass 900 goals in professional football. He was honored with the Platinum Quinas, the highest accolade for a Portuguese player, by Fernando Gomes, President of the Portuguese Football Federation, during a gala event on Monday night.

After accepting this prestigious award, Ronaldo spoke about his goal-scoring aspirations, expressing satisfaction with his current accomplishments. He remarked, “I now live in the moment. Thinking long-term is no longer feasible for me. I publicly aimed to reach 1000 goals, but it seems like an easy feat now. Just last month, I reached 900. It’s about living day by day and seeing how my body responds in the coming years. If I reach 1000 goals, that’s wonderful, but if not, I am still the highest goal-scorer in history.”

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner remains unrivaled, with his closest competitor, Lionel Messi, having recently reached 850 goals. Ronaldo joined the Saudi Pro League in the winter of 2022 and has consistently shattered goal-scoring records. Despite leading the league in goals last season, he has not yet secured a title with Al Nassr. This season, he has had a slower start, with 6 goals so far.

Recently, Ronaldo played a crucial role in Al Nassr’s dominant 5-1 victory over reigning Asian champions Al Ain in the AFC Champions League Elite, scoring the second goal at Al Awwal Park in Riyadh. This goal marked his return to the scoresheet after a three-match drought.
