Uncertainty continues to surround the return of MS Dhoni as Chennai Super Kings prepare to face Mumbai Indians in their upcoming Indian Premier League encounter. Despite recent signs suggesting a possible comeback, team management has clarified that no decision has been finalized.
The veteran wicketkeeper batter, who has been sidelined with a calf injury since before the season began, was recently seen training at Wankhede Stadium. His session included both batting practice and wicketkeeping drills, sparking strong speculation that he might return to action soon.
However, speaking ahead of the match, bowling coach Eric Simmons made it clear that the final decision lies entirely with the player. He emphasized that Dhoni will only return once he feels fully fit and receives clearance from the medical staff, dismissing any immediate confirmation of his availability.
Injuries have been a recurring challenge for Chennai Super Kings this season. Fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed has been ruled out due to a quadriceps issue, while batter Ayush Mhatre is also sidelined with a hamstring injury for the remainder of the tournament.
The team is yet to officially announce replacements, although reports suggest that Akash Madhwal and Rajvardhan Hangargekar have been involved in trial sessions.
These setbacks have impacted the team’s performance so far. The five time champions currently sit in the lower half of the table with two wins from four matches. After a difficult start to the season they managed to secure back to back victories at home but were unable to maintain momentum in their most recent match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
As anticipation builds around MS Dhoni’s return fans will have to wait longer for official confirmation with the franchise taking a cautious approach to his fitness and availability.
