Dubai authorities have issued an important safety advisory for delivery riders and taxi drivers as the city prepares for severe weather conditions. With an orange weather alert in effect, officials are urging motorists to take extra precautions amid forecasts of heavy rain, thunderstorms, strong winds and lightning.
Delivery riders have specifically been advised to temporarily suspend trips and delivery operations during periods of intense rainfall to reduce risks. Officials emphasized that continuing to ride in such conditions could endanger both the riders and other road users.
Taxi drivers, meanwhile, have been reminded to strictly follow traffic regulations and maintain responsible driving behavior, especially during unstable weather. Authorities highlighted that cautious driving and adherence to safety guidelines are essential to prevent accidents during adverse conditions.
As part of ongoing safety efforts, Dubai Police conducted awareness initiatives targeting both groups. Around 100 delivery riders participated in a campaign focused on road safety, while over 40 drivers from Dubai Taxi Corporation attended an educational session led by the Traffic Education Department.
The sessions highlighted several critical safety concerns. Delivery riders were warned against entering flooded areas, stopping on road shoulders, or parking under bridges and inside tunnels during heavy rain. These situations can quickly become dangerous due to water accumulation and reduced visibility.
Officials also stressed the importance of following traffic instructions and adapting to changing weather conditions. Responsible driving behavior and preparedness were identified as key factors in minimizing road incidents.
Taxi drivers were additionally advised to avoid driving through waterlogged roads, ensure regular vehicle maintenance, and check tyre conditions to prevent skidding. Maintaining a safe distance between vehicles was also reinforced as a crucial rule during wet weather.
Senior officials reiterated that strict compliance with safety measures and traffic rules is vital during periods of severe weather to protect lives and maintain road safety across the city.
