Starting August 2024, residents of Dubai Sustainable City will experience a new way of receiving their food and groceries—via autonomous delivery robots. These innovative little machines, developed through a partnership between Dubai Future Labs and technology company Lyve Global, have completed their trial phase and are now ready for deployment. The Sustainable City’s pedestrian-friendly streets provide the perfect environment for these robots to operate smoothly.
Initially, the service will be limited to the Sustainable City, where the robots will deliver meals from local restaurants and daily groceries. The robots are designed for efficiency, promising to make deliveries within 30 minutes while avoiding obstacles and navigating safely.
Dubai’s delivery robots are not only quick but also eco-friendly. They can autonomously find and dock at charging stations when their batteries run low. Khalifa Al Qama, Director of Dubai Future Labs, highlights that these robots are engineered to deliver products swiftly and safely, requiring no human intervention.
This initiative aligns with Dubai’s goal to make 25 percent of its trips autonomous by 2030, contributing to the city’s broader green mission. Hassan Hallas, CEO of Lyve Global, expressed excitement about this collaboration, emphasizing their commitment to innovation and sustainability, and envisioning a smarter, more connected future in logistics.
