Dubai, June 28, 2024 – The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is undertaking six major road projects to significantly reduce traffic congestion in the bustling city. With Dubai’s continuous growth and increasing population, these projects aim to enhance traffic flow and reduce travel times, benefiting residents and commuters alike.

Al Khail Road Expansion
A Dhs700 million project will see the construction of bridges and road widening over a 6,820-meter area. This will improve traffic flow in key areas including Zabeel, Meydan, Al Quoz 1, Ghadeer Al Tair, and Jumeirah Village Circle, facilitating smoother travel towards Abu Dhabi and Deira.

Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement
Currently in its fourth phase, this long-running project has a new contract worth Dhs800 million. Extending 4.8 km along Sheikh Rashid Road, it includes the construction of three bridges and a new bridge connecting Bur Dubai and Dubai Islands. These improvements will accommodate up to 19,400 vehicles per hour, significantly easing congestion.

Dedicated Taxi and Bus Lanes
The RTA plans to introduce 13.1 km of dedicated taxi and bus lanes across six major streets. Set for completion between 2025 and 2027, this initiative will expand the dedicated bus lane network to 20.1 km, encouraging public transport use and reducing private vehicle dependency.

Hessa Street Upgrade
A Dhs689 million project will enhance four main intersections and widen Hessa Street to four lanes in each direction over a 4.5 km stretch. Serving an estimated 640,000 people by 2030, this project will streamline traffic flow on one of Dubai’s key thoroughfares.

Intelligent Traffic Systems Project
The second phase of this ambitious project aims to cover 100% of Dubai’s main roads with smart technology. Features include sensors, cameras, and Variable Message Signs (VMS) to provide real-time information on journey times and road conditions, improving overall traffic management and safety.

Umm Suqeim Road Project
A Dhs332 million contract will improve the intersection from Al Khail Road to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. This project includes the construction of two bridges with three lanes in each direction and three pedestrian bridges. Once completed, it is expected to reduce travel times by around a third in the affected areas.

These projects, once completed, are expected to greatly enhance the efficiency of Dubai’s road network, making commutes faster and more convenient for all residents.
