Dwayne Johnson has opened up about his surprising attempt to join the cast of The Devil Wears Prada 2, sharing that he personally pitched himself for a small but stylish role in the upcoming sequel. While promoting the success of The Smashing Machine, the actor told Entertainment Weekly that he was ready to embrace fashion on-screen — including wearing size 15 heels — just to be part of the iconic franchise.
Johnson, who recently starred alongside Emily Blunt in The Smashing Machine, revealed that he approached Blunt while she was filming the sequel with Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway. The actor admitted he wanted to portray a “cool” character who understood fashion and added playful flair to the movie. Blunt confirmed his story, noting that “he really tried” to land the cameo and joking that he would have looked “hot in heels.”
Despite his enthusiasm, Johnson did not secure a role, though Blunt continued sending him behind-the-scenes videos from the New York City sets. Johnson described the experience as “wild,” comparing the fan excitement around filming to a pop-star-level sighting.
The Devil Wears Prada 2, directed by David Frankel and based on Lauren Weisberger’s bestselling novel, is scheduled for release on May 1, 2026. The sequel marks the return of iconic characters and has already generated massive buzz after Anne Hathaway dropped the first teaser on her birthday.
