Dubai is preparing for a revolutionary underground transportation system with Elon Musk’s Dubai Loop, a project by the Boring Company designed to transform urban travel. Expected to launch in 2026, the Dubai Loop will feature high-speed underground tunnels capable of transporting up to 20,000 passengers per hour in its initial phase.
Announced in February 2025, the first phase of the project will cover 17 kilometers with 11 stations, providing direct travel with no intermediate stops at speeds reaching 160 km/h. Elon Musk will work alongside the Dubai Government and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to implement the system in the city’s busiest and most congested areas.
The Dubai Loop aims to alleviate traffic congestion, improve commute times, and offer a weather-proof travel option. Future expansions could increase the system’s capacity to over 100,000 passengers per hour with multiple interconnected loops. The project draws inspiration from the Las Vegas Loop, which has successfully transported more than 2 million passengers since 2021.
Elon Musk shared his excitement about the project during a satellite announcement at the 2025 World Governments Summit, describing the Dubai Loop as a “wormhole” for city travel that will make commuting fast, efficient, and futuristic. The tunnels will be safe, environmentally friendly, and a cost-effective solution for urban mobility.
While technical and economic reviews are ongoing, the Dubai Loop represents a bold step toward transforming transportation in the UAE and is set to become a landmark for innovative urban travel in Dubai.
