Epic Games has officially launched its app store on iOS across the European Union, alongside a global rollout on Android. This new platform, known as the Epic Games Store, debuted with popular titles such as Fortnite, Rocket League Sideswipe, and Fall Guys. The launch of the store on iOS was made possible by the Digital Markets Act (DMA) enacted by the European Union last year, which compelled Apple to allow third-party app stores on its platform. Epic Games has also integrated its own payment system for in-app purchases, ensuring a seamless experience for users.
In an official newsroom announcement, Epic Games revealed that the Epic Games Store is now accessible on iOS in Europe and on Android devices worldwide. The company is also expanding its game offerings to the third-party app store AltStore PAL. This allows users in eligible regions to download and play their favorite games directly from these platforms.
Tim Sweeny, CEO of Epic Games, expressed his excitement on X (previously Twitter), stating that Fortnite is once again available on iOS in Europe, thanks to the DMA. However, he also highlighted the ongoing battle with Apple, which continues to block Fortnite from reaching a billion players worldwide.
Epic Games has also shared step-by-step video guides on how to install its app store on both iOS and Android. Players who install the games will have access to the mobile version of Fortnite, with the game’s latest chapter, “Chapter 5: Season Absolute Doom,” launching on Friday. The company emphasized that the installation process is designed to be user-friendly, despite the challenges posed by iOS and Android’s complex device settings. Epic Games remains committed to challenging anti-competitive practices and working with global regulators to ensure a fair market.
