In a deeply moving revelation, the final recorded interview of Grey’s Anatomy star Eric Dane has been released, offering a heartfelt goodbye to his teenage daughters and a powerful reflection on life courage and love. The late actor recorded the interview just months before his death, never knowing it would become his final public message.
Eric Dane passed away on February 19 at the age of 53 after a long and courageous battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis ALS. The interview was filmed in November 2025 for Netflix’s series Famous Last Words and remained unreleased until after his death. In the closing moments of the episode, Dane addressed his daughters Billie and Georgia directly, speaking candidly about his imperfections his gratitude and his enduring hope for their futures.
Speaking alone to the camera, Dane told his daughters that although he had stumbled along the way he always tried his best and cherished the life they shared together. He reflected emotionally on family memories spent by the ocean in places like Santa Monica Hawaii and Mexico describing those moments as some of the happiest of his life.
He went on to share four lessons shaped by his experience with ALS. First he urged his daughters to live fully in the present rather than being consumed by regret doubt or fear. He openly admitted that he spent too much of his life second guessing himself and wished he had embraced the moment more often.
His second message focused on love encouraging them to seek it not only in relationships but also in passions purpose and anything that brings joy. The third lesson was about friendship as Dane expressed gratitude for the friends who stood by him when illness took away his independence reminding his daughters to choose people who truly show up when life gets hard.
Finally he urged them to fight with dignity and resilience no matter the challenge. Even as ALS weakened his body Dane made it clear that his spirit remained unbroken telling his daughters that strength perseverance and the will to keep going were his greatest gifts to them. He ended his message by calling them his heart and his everything and telling them he loved them deeply.
Eric Dane rose to global fame as Dr Mark Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy and later appeared in projects such as Euphoria. He is survived by his wife actress Rebecca Gayheart and their daughters Billie and Georgia. His family described his final days as being filled with love surrounded by those closest to him and highlighted his advocacy for ALS awareness and research during his illness.
