Ganesh Chaturthi is not just about rituals, decorations, and devotion — it is also about delicious festive sweets that symbolize happiness and prosperity. Among all the treats prepared during this auspicious time, Ukadiche Modak remains the most loved prasad offered to Lord Ganesha. Known as his favorite sweet, this Maharashtrian delicacy is soft, aromatic, and filled with the goodness of coconut and jaggery.
Here’s an easy Ukadiche Modak recipe that you can prepare at home to make your Ganesh Chaturthi 2025 extra special.
Ingredients:
- 1 ½ cups rice flour
- A pinch of salt
- 2 tbsp ghee
- 1 ½ cups fresh grated coconut
- 1 cup grated jaggery
- 1 tbsp roasted poppy seeds
- A pinch of green cardamom powder
- A pinch of nutmeg powder
Method:
- Prepare the dough: Heat 1 ¼ cups of water with a pinch of salt and 1 tsp ghee. Add rice flour slowly while stirring to prevent lumps. Cover, let it steam, sprinkle some cold water, and repeat the steaming process twice. Transfer to a plate, knead with greased palms until smooth, and keep covered with a damp cloth.
- Make the filling: In a pan, cook grated coconut with jaggery until lightly golden. Add roasted poppy seeds, cardamom powder, and nutmeg powder. Mix well and keep aside.
- Shape the modaks: Divide the dough into 12 balls. Flatten each ball, place a spoonful of filling, and pleat the edges to form the modak shape.
- Steam: Place the modaks in a steamer and cook for 10–12 minutes until glossy and firm. Serve hot with a drizzle of pure ghee.
These Ukadiche Modaks are not only a divine offering to Lord Ganesha but also a delightful sweet dish that captures the true essence of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
