Garmin has unveiled its newest aviator smartwatches, the D2 Air X15 and D2 Mach 2, built for pilots and active users seeking both aviation-specific features and everyday smartwatch functionality. The D2 Air X15 comes with a 45mm stainless steel and fibre-reinforced polymer case paired with a black silicone strap, while the D2 Mach 2 is offered in 47mm and 51mm models featuring titanium or DLC-coated bezels and QuickFit bands. Both watches feature 1.4-inch AMOLED displays, touchscreen operation, and customizable large font options.
With PlaneSync technology, pilots can access avionics dashboards, receive flight data, crew alerts, aviation morning reports, and create geo-referenced voice notes. Users can customise aircraft icons for piston planes, turboprops, jets, or helicopters. The D2 Mach 2 further offers advanced aviation maps including topography, terrain shading, airspace boundaries, waypoints, VORs, and weather alerts based on user-defined limits for crosswind, ceiling, and visibility.
These watches also support health and fitness tracking, including Pulse Ox blood oxygen monitoring, ECG via Garmin app, sleep score insights, training status, and readiness. They feature built-in mapping, music storage, Garmin Pay, multi-band GPS, a speaker and microphone, voice calls and messaging when paired with a smartphone, and an LED flashlight. Water resistance is rated at 5 ATM for the D2 Air X15 and 10 ATM for the D2 Mach 2. Memory storage includes 8GB for the D2 Air X15 and 32GB for the D2 Mach 2, with proprietary charging.
Battery life varies by model and usage: the D2 Air X15 offers up to 10 days in smartwatch mode, 25 days in battery saver mode, and 20 hours in GPS-only mode. The D2 Mach 2 delivers up to 14 days in smartwatch mode, seven days always-on, 23 days in battery saver mode, 47 hours in GPS-only mode, and up to 37 hours for Fly Activity with GPS and SpO2. The D2 Mach 2 also supports recreational diving with a 40m dive rating and single-gas scuba activity.
Pricing starts at $649.99 (approx Rs. 57,100) for the Garmin D2 Air X15, while the D2 Mach 2 is available at $1,349.99 (approx Rs. 1,18,600) for the 47mm model and $1,499.99 (approx Rs. 1,31,800) for the 51mm version, available through the Garmin website in the US.
