India head coach Gautam Gambhir delivered an emotional message of support to Rinku Singh ahead of the team’s decisive Super 8 encounter against the West Indies in the ICC T20 World Cup. The young finisher had rejoined the squad shortly after the passing of his father Khanchand Singh who had been battling cancer.
Rinku had earlier flown home when his father’s condition worsened during the tournament and returned to national duty to remain available for selection. After the unfortunate demise of his father he once again travelled home before rejoining the Indian camp demonstrating resilience and commitment at a challenging personal moment.
Addressing the team in a huddle Gambhir acknowledged Rinku’s strength and character reminding him that he had the full backing of the squad. The coach emphasised unity and support telling the batter that he was not facing the difficult phase alone and that the entire team stood beside him.
Although Rinku missed out on the playing eleven after India adjusted combinations following their loss to South Africa his dedication did not go unnoticed. Gambhir also used the moment to rally the team stressing the importance of embracing pressure rather than retreating from it in what had effectively become a knockout fixture. He urged his players to stay brave play positively and enjoy representing the country in high stakes contests.
India responded in style with Sanju Samson leading the chase with an unbeaten 97 guiding the team to a five wicket victory and securing a spot in the semifinals. The win highlighted the team’s resilience both on and off the field during a testing phase of the tournament.
