A tragic incident has shaken Ghana’s football community after young winger Dominic Frimpong lost his life during a violent robbery targeting the team bus of Berekum Chelsea. The attack occurred as the squad was returning from an away fixture in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

According to reports, the team was traveling along the Goaso–Bibiani road after playing against Samartex in Samreboi when armed assailants ambushed their bus. The attackers reportedly blocked the road, forcing the vehicle to stop before opening fire.

In an official statement, the club described how masked men carrying firearms began shooting as the driver attempted to escape by reversing. Players and staff were forced to flee into nearby bushes to protect themselves from the gunfire.

The Ghana Football Association later confirmed that 20-year-old Frimpong succumbed to injuries sustained during the attack. His passing has been met with widespread grief across the football community.

In its statement, the association expressed deep sorrow over the loss, highlighting Frimpong’s potential and dedication to the sport. He was regarded as a rising talent whose commitment represented the future of Ghanaian football.

Authorities have indicated that measures will be taken to improve security for teams traveling for domestic matches, following growing concerns over safety. This incident echoes a similar attack in 2023 involving another club, though that event did not result in casualties.
