Google has announced a major upgrade for Gemini Live, its real-time AI voice assistant, bringing in visual guidance, app integration with Phone, Messages, and Clock, and improved voice models for natural conversations. The new features will first be available on the Google Pixel 10 series starting August 28, with a broader rollout to other Android devices soon after, followed by iOS devices.
One of the most anticipated features is visual guidance, which allows Gemini Live to highlight objects on the screen during video mode. When multiple items appear in the camera view, the AI can visually mark the relevant object with a rectangle, helping users identify the correct item quickly. This feature was teased earlier at Google I/O 2025 and is designed to simplify object recognition in crowded or visually complex scenes.
In addition, Gemini Live will now integrate with Phone, Messages, and Clock apps, making it possible to place calls, send text messages, and set alarms directly through voice prompts during a conversation. Until now, the AI assistant primarily worked with Google Calendar, Keep, and Tasks. This expansion makes it far more versatile as a hands-free personal assistant.
Google also revealed plans to upgrade the speech models powering Gemini Live. These enhancements will bring more natural intonation, rhythm, and pitch, along with the ability to adjust tempo, tone, and even adopt character accents while narrating. The company says these improvements will make interactions with Gemini Live feel more lifelike and engaging.
With these upgrades, Gemini Live is evolving into a powerful AI companion that blends visual understanding, natural speech, and deeper system integration—cementing its role as a key innovation in Google’s AI ecosystem.
