Google has launched new cross-device features for Android, enabling seamless switching between devices when using certain apps or performing tasks. Initially announced in May, these features are now available as Call Casting and Internet Sharing. Users can activate cross-device services on supported devices by signing in with the same Google account and enabling Bluetooth. This new functionality allows Android smartphones and tablets running Android 11 and later to detect each other and switch tasks. However, these features are not available on Android Go devices. Google has noted that when the service is enabled, other nearby devices may see the user’s device name and some information. Previously paired devices will also recognize the user’s device.

Call Casting allows users to transfer video calls from one device to another using the same Google account. Internet Sharing lets devices share internet access, connecting to the primary device’s instant hotspot. However, this feature is not available on Samsung devices, which can use the Auto Hotspot feature instead.

To enable cross-device services:

  1. Open Settings on your Android device.
  2. Tap on Google.
  3. Navigate to Devices & sharing.
  4. Select Cross-device services.
  5. Toggle on Cross-device services and ensure Bluetooth is enabled.
