Google has confirmed plans to extend AirDrop and Quick Share interoperability to a wider range of Android smartphones in 2026. The feature which allows seamless wireless file sharing between Android and Apple devices was first introduced with the Pixel 10 series. Following positive feedback Google is now preparing to roll out this cross platform sharing capability across more Android devices later this year.
The announcement was shared during a Pixel Labs briefing where Google executives revealed that the company is actively working with hardware partners to bring the feature beyond Pixel phones. While an exact rollout timeline has not been confirmed Google has hinted that more details will be announced soon. The expansion is expected to make file sharing between Android iPhone iPad and macOS devices far more convenient for users.
With this functionality Android users can send files directly to Apple devices using Quick Share while iPhone users can receive content via AirDrop. The system relies on a direct peer to peer connection meaning files are transferred without passing through cloud servers. Google has emphasized that shared data is never logged and remains private throughout the transfer process. The feature works with Apple’s Everyone for 10 minutes AirDrop setting ensuring compatibility and ease of use.
Google has also indicated that it is improving tools to help users switch from iPhone to Android more smoothly including better data transfer options. To ensure safety and reliability the interoperability feature has undergone independent security testing by third party firm NetSPI. The assessment found the solution to be highly secure with strong privacy protections and no data leakage.
