Premier League giants along with clubs from lower leagues shared heartfelt greetings to Sikh fans as the sacred festival of Gurupurab was celebrated, marking the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism. The festival, also called Guru Nanak Jayanti or Guru Nanak Prakash Utsav, holds deep spiritual significance as it spreads the message of unity, compassion and serving humanity.

Supporters across England witnessed top clubs including Manchester United and Liverpool posting special messages on social platforms to honour the joyous occasion. The event is observed with prayers, soulful hymns and community feasts known as langar, emphasising the core Sikh principles of equality and selfless giving. Devotees also participate in processions, religious readings and nighttime prayer gatherings.

Celebrations traditionally begin two days prior with Akhand Path in Gurudwaras, where the Guru Granth Sahib is recited continuously for 48 hours. On the eve of Gurupurab, colourful Nagarkirtan processions take place, led by the Panj Pyare, while devotees chant sacred hymns throughout the streets. On the main day, early morning Prabhat Pheris start from Gurudwaras as followers engage in kirtan and katha followed by langar being served to all without discrimination. This year, the festival was celebrated on Wednesday, November 5, aligning with the full moon of Kartik month.
