Hailey Bieber has finally broken her silence on being constantly compared to her husband Justin Bieber’s ex, Selena Gomez. In a candid interview with the Wall Street Journal, the model and entrepreneur called the ongoing comparisons “annoying” and said she never asked to be pitted against anyone.

The Rhode Skin founder shared that despite major achievements in her career — including her billion-dollar beauty brand acquisition by e.l.f. Beauty — she continues to face unnecessary scrutiny over her marriage and social media presence. Hailey said she doesn’t view herself as being in competition with others, explaining, “There’s enough space for everyone to thrive. I don’t feel competitive with people who don’t inspire me.”

When asked directly about Selena Gomez and Rare Beauty, Hailey’s publicist reportedly declined to comment further, but Hailey clarified that comparisons between women are “exhausting and unfair.” She added, “It’s frustrating when people make up their own stories about you. I never asked for this narrative, and it’s not my responsibility to change people’s perceptions.”

Speaking about her relationship with Justin Bieber, Hailey said they’re both learning and growing together, trying to find balance in their personal and professional lives.

The entrepreneur also touched upon her approach to parenting, revealing why she and Justin have chosen not to show their son Jack Blues Bieber’s face online. Hailey said she wants to protect his privacy until he’s old enough to understand the implications of fame. Despite frequently posting family moments on social media, the couple have kept their son’s face hidden out of respect for his privacy.

This isn’t the first time Hailey has addressed the issue. In a 2023 interview with Bloomberg Originals’ The Circuit With Emily Chang, she described the comparisons to Selena Gomez as “vile and disgusting,” adding that the hate stems from “twisted and perpetuated narratives.” She emphasized that pitting women against each other, especially because of a man, is “awful” and something she has “always hated.”

With Hailey continuing to make her mark in the beauty and fashion world, her message is clear — she’s focusing on growth, positivity, and family while leaving the negativity behind.
