Jemimah Rodrigues produced one of the most remarkable knocks in the history of women’s cricket as she guided India to a record run chase against Australia in the Women’s World Cup 2025 semi-final at the Dr DY Patil Stadium Navi Mumbai. Her unbeaten 127 off 134 balls became the backbone of India’s historic entry into the final where they will take on South Africa on November 2.
The match wasn’t short of tense moments. Rodrigues and captain Harmanpreet Kaur built a crucial 167-run partnership for the third wicket that kept India in the chase. But when Harmanpreet fell for 89 the pressure mounted instantly. Deepti Sharma then joined Rodrigues at the crease and the duo added a valuable 38-run stand off 33 balls ensuring the momentum stayed with India.
Rodrigues later admitted that there was a moment of self-doubt. Exhausted and under pressure she looked at Deepti for reassurance. She shared that she told Deepti she felt she couldn’t finish the job. Deepti continuously motivated her ball by ball even putting her wicket on the line to rotate strike. As she walked off after being dismissed Deepti reminded Rodrigues to complete the victory for the country.
Jemimah acknowledged the contribution of her teammates stating that cameos from Deepti Richa Ghosh and Amanjot Kaur played an unseen yet vital role. She emphasized that this Indian squad has changed the narrative of losing key moments and instead shown incredible resilience to win under pressure.
The standout batter was also recognised for her outstanding effort in the field earning the Fielder of the Match award from fielding coach Munish Bali. Rodrigues said the team had only one final push left as they aim to lift their first ever Women’s World Cup trophy.
India now moves into the final with confidence and belief that history can be rewritten once more.
