HTC has officially entered the AI-powered smart glasses market with the launch of the HTC Vive Eagle, a sleek Wayfarer-style wearable designed for functionality without a display. The Vive Eagle integrates an advanced AI assistant that can be powered by Google Gemini or OpenAI GPT, currently in beta. With voice commands, users can play music, interact with the AI assistant, take photos and videos, and even translate text from signs and images in real time.
Priced at NT$15,600 (approximately Rs. 45,500), the HTC Vive Eagle is currently available exclusively in Taiwan. Consumers can test and purchase the glasses at 2020EYEhaus and selected Taiwan Mobile outlets. Buyers can choose from four stylish colours — Berry, Black, Coffee, and Grey — to suit their style.
The device weighs 48.8g with lenses and 42.8g without. It runs on the Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chipset paired with 4GB RAM and 32GB storage. A 12MP ultrawide camera allows high-resolution photos (3024 x 4032 pixels) and videos (1512 x 2016 pixels at 30fps), protected by Zeiss UV400 lenses. Audio capabilities include 2 open-ear stereo speakers and a beamforming microphone system with one directional and three omnidirectional microphones. An LED indicator signals when photos or videos are being captured.
Battery performance is backed by a 235mAh cell, providing up to 36 hours of standby time or 4.5 hours of continuous music playback. The magnetic charging cable supports rapid charging, reaching 50% in just 10 minutes and 80% in 23 minutes.
