India’s maiden Women’s ODI World Cup victory has marked a defining shift in the nation’s cricketing journey and captain Harmanpreet Kaur believes this breakthrough should only be the beginning. She expressed that the team wants to transform historic achievement into a consistent winning culture and build towards greater global dominance. The captain emphasised that breaking the barrier was the first step and now maintaining success is the new mission.

India’s title win did not come easy. Midway through the tournament the side faced the threat of exiting at the league stage after three straight defeats. But a remarkable comeback saw India overcome defending T20 world champions New Zealand to secure the last semifinal spot. The momentum only grew stronger as they stunned seven time champions Australia and then delivered a commanding victory over South Africa by 52 runs in the final at DY Patil Stadium Navi Mumbai. The triumph has rewritten the narrative of Indian women’s cricket igniting belief across fans and players alike.

The focus now shifts to what lies ahead. After celebrating their monumental success the players will take a two month break with no immediate international fixtures in 2025. Their next focus will be the Women’s Premier League WPL 2026 scheduled to begin in early January. Following the league the national squad will reunite for a major tour of Australia in February marking the start of their preparations for the T20 World Cup in June 2026 in England.

The Australia tour includes three T20Is across Sydney Canberra and Adelaide followed by three ODIs in Brisbane and Hobart before ending with a Day Night Test at Perth. The challenge holds extra emotional weight as Australia will be determined to settle scores after their semifinal loss in the World Cup.

Following Australia India will have a short break before heading to England for three T20Is at Chelmsford Bristol and Taunton. These matches are their final build up fixtures ahead of the ICC tournament scheduled to take place in June 2026. India will remain in England post World Cup to play a historic one off Test at Lord’s in July marking another milestone moment for women’s cricket.

With renewed confidence strong leadership and a clear roadmap India’s women’s team is preparing to carry forward its golden rise as a new era unfolds.
