Apple’s upcoming affordable iPhone, tentatively called the iPhone 17e, has once again appeared in leaks, offering fresh insight into its possible launch timeline and expected features. While Apple has not officially confirmed the device, industry chatter suggests the company is preparing to introduce the iPhone 17e in the first quarter of 2026. If this timeline holds true, the phone would follow a similar release pattern to the iPhone 16e, which debuted in February 2025 as a replacement for the iPhone SE lineup.

The iPhone 17e is expected to remain Apple’s most budget-friendly modern iPhone, sitting well below the standard iPhone 17 in pricing and positioning. Despite this, the device could receive meaningful upgrades that narrow the gap between Apple’s entry-level and flagship models. One of the most notable changes tipped by recent leaks is the possible shift from a traditional notch to the Dynamic Island design, bringing a more premium look to Apple’s lower-cost offering.

According to information shared by well-known Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, Apple is planning to unveil the iPhone 17e during the early months of 2026. Earlier rumours had suggested a possible May launch, but the latest claims indicate a launch window much closer to the start of the year. This would align with Apple’s recent strategy of refreshing its affordable lineup early in the calendar year.

In terms of specifications, the iPhone 17e is said to feature a 6.1-inch LTPS OLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate, similar to its predecessor. However, the inclusion of the Dynamic Island would mark a significant visual upgrade compared to the notch-based design seen on the iPhone 16e. This change alone could make the device more appealing to users looking for a modern iPhone experience at a lower price point.

Performance upgrades are also expected. The iPhone 17e is tipped to run on Apple’s next-generation A19 chipset, which should offer improved efficiency and performance over the A18 chip found in the iPhone 16e. Face ID support is also likely to continue, ensuring biometric security remains consistent across Apple’s lineup. The tipster further suggests that sales of the iPhone 17e could surpass those of the previous model, possibly due to the refreshed design and upgraded internals.

For reference, the iPhone 16e was launched in India with a starting price of Rs. 59,900 for the 128GB variant, going up to Rs. 89,900 for the 512GB model. It featured a 48-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilisation, a 12-megapixel front camera, an IP68-rated build, and support for 18W wired and 7.5W wireless charging. If Apple follows a similar pricing strategy, the iPhone 17e could once again attract users looking to enter the Apple ecosystem without paying flagship-level prices.

As with all leaks, these details should be taken with caution until Apple makes an official announcement. However, if the predictions are accurate, the iPhone 17e could become one of the most compelling affordable smartphones Apple has released in recent years.
