Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro series is already drawing attention with early leaks revealing a major shift in design. The company is said to be experimenting with a transparent rear finish that offers a futuristic look, different from any previous iPhone. The fresh design direction may take cues from innovative brands like Nothing and some older HTC models. Alongside this, Apple is reportedly planning a new hole-punch cutout for the front camera, replacing the Dynamic Island on its current flagship models.
According to recent reports from a well-known tipster on Weibo, both iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max could feature a strengthened stainless-steel structure that supports the transparent back. The Pro Max variant is also rumoured to include a steel-encased battery for improved durability and thermal stability. Apple is said to be testing Hole-in-Active-Area (HIAA) technology, which moves key sensors like Face ID components under the OLED display. This suggests Apple is gradually progressing toward a completely notch-free and fully immersive display.
The main rear camera on the iPhone 18 Pro series might include a variable aperture setup, offering enhanced control over lighting and image quality. However, Apple is expected to keep a similar camera island layout to the current iPhone 17 Pro lineup. Display sizes are likely to remain unchanged as well — 6.26 inches on the iPhone 18 Pro and 6.9 inches on the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Performance upgrades will continue with Apple’s next-generation A20 chip, designed on TSMC’s 2nm technology for better efficiency and power. The new models may also adopt a vapour-chamber cooling system reinforced with stainless-steel components to improve sustained performance during gaming and video recording.
Exciting new colour options may arrive too, including burgundy, coffee, and purple. If leaks are accurate, the launch strategy could differ from previous years. Apple may reveal the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max in September next year, while standard iPhone 18 models reportedly might be delayed until spring 2027, potentially launching alongside Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
