The Indian Premier League 2026 season has witnessed a setback for Sunrisers Hyderabad as England fast bowler Brydon Carse has been officially ruled out due to injury. The franchise has announced Sri Lankan pacer Dilshan Madushanka as his replacement for the remainder of the tournament.

Carse, who was signed for INR 1 crore, sustained a hand injury before the start of the season and was unavailable for the opening matches. Initially, team management remained hopeful about his quick recovery. Head coach Daniel Vettori had earlier explained that the injury occurred during a training session, where Carse was struck on his bowling hand while batting. Despite no fracture being detected, swelling prevented him from gripping the ball effectively.

However, as the tournament progressed, it became clear that Carse would not regain fitness in time, prompting the team to make a replacement. Dilshan Madushanka has now joined the squad for INR 75 lakh. The left-arm pacer brings valuable international experience, having represented Sri Lanka across formats and claimed 70 wickets in international cricket. He also has prior exposure to the IPL, having been part of the Mumbai Indians setup.

Meanwhile, the availability of Pat Cummins remains under observation. The designated captain is scheduled for a fitness test in Australia, and if cleared, he is expected to join the squad shortly. In his absence, Ishan Kishan has taken over leadership duties.

Sunrisers Hyderabad have had a mixed campaign so far, securing two wins in five matches. A recent victory against Rajasthan Royals boosted their position in the standings. Emerging players like Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain made a strong impact on debut, each picking up four wickets to help the team defend a high total.

With squad adjustments and key players nearing return, Sunrisers Hyderabad will aim to build momentum as the IPL 2026 season continues.
