The long-awaited fourth installment of the iconic Rush Hour series is finally happening, with Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker confirmed to return as the beloved action-comedy duo. After years of stalled development, the project has secured fresh backing at Paramount, marking the first major breakthrough for the franchise in more than a decade.

Industry sources reveal that the long-dormant sequel regained momentum after high-level discussions helped push the project forward, granting director Brett Ratner a surprising return to a major studio production. Ratner, who had stepped away from Hollywood following multiple allegations during the #MeToo movement, is now reentering the spotlight after recently directing a high-budget documentary on Melania Trump for Amazon MGM Studios. The documentary is set for a theatrical release early next year.

For years, Ratner reportedly struggled to secure financing and studio support for Rush Hour 4. However, recent developments shifted when influential figures within the entertainment and political circles advocated for the film’s revival. This reportedly contributed to Paramount Skydance—previously Paramount Global—greenlighting the project shortly after settling a separate legal dispute earlier this year.

Paramount is said to have finalized the film’s financing and arranged a distribution plan with Warner Bros, which previously handled the original trilogy under New Line Cinema. With this new partnership, the long-delayed sequel has finally found the infrastructure it needs to move ahead.

The first three Rush Hour movies collectively earned over $850 million worldwide, becoming a global sensation with particularly strong box-office performance in China. The upcoming sequel is viewed by some analysts as part of Hollywood’s broader effort to revive traditional buddy-cop franchises and reintroduce classic action-comedy dynamics to new audiences.

Earlier this year, Jackie Chan, now 71, humorously commented on the delays while promoting Karate Kid: Legends:
“Ask the director, ask the studio, ask the writer. Hurry! Otherwise, Chris Tucker and I will be 100 years old. We’ll be old men doing Rush Hour.”

With renewed backing and both lead stars onboard, fans can finally expect the iconic partnership of Chan and Tucker to return to the big screen.
