Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has received massive praise from legendary England pacer James Anderson who described his yorker bowling ability as unmatched in modern cricket. The appreciation comes just hours before India face New Zealand national cricket team in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Ahmedabad.
Bumrah delivered a match turning performance during the semifinal against England national cricket team at Wankhede Stadium. In a high scoring encounter India posted a massive total of 253 runs and eventually secured a narrow seven run victory. Bumrah’s disciplined bowling in the final overs proved decisive as he conceded only 14 runs in his last two overs preventing England from completing the chase.
The Indian pacer has been one of the standout performers throughout the tournament delivering consistent breakthroughs and controlling the scoring rate in crucial moments. Earlier in the competition during a virtual knockout clash against West Indies national cricket team at Eden Gardens Bumrah dismissed Shimron Hetmyer and Roston Chase in the same over to halt West Indies’ momentum.
Speaking on a BBC podcast Anderson expressed admiration for Bumrah’s extraordinary ability to execute yorkers with precision. The former England fast bowler explained that Bumrah’s bowling style is so unique that it is difficult for other bowlers to replicate or learn from it.
According to Anderson Bumrah has the rare skill of consistently delivering perfect yorkers under pressure even mixing variations like slower yorkers to confuse batters. He added that no bowler in the world across men’s or women’s cricket can repeatedly deliver six perfect yorkers in an over the way Bumrah can.
During the semifinal England batters including Jacob Bethell and Sam Curran tried to minimise damage by focusing on rotating strike rather than attempting risky boundary shots against Bumrah.
Anderson pointed out that the English batters realised hitting boundaries off Bumrah’s yorkers was extremely difficult so they targeted other bowlers instead. In the final over of the chase Shivam Dube conceded 22 runs including powerful strikes from Jofra Archer though by then the match had largely slipped away from England.
As India prepare for the World Cup final the praise from one of cricket’s greatest fast bowlers highlights just how influential Bumrah has become in modern T20 cricket. His deadly accuracy in the death overs could once again play a crucial role in deciding the championship.
