A thrilling new series is set to explode onto screens this June as Prime Video unveils Countdown, an action-packed drama starring Jensen Ackles and Eric Dane. Scheduled to premiere on June 25, the show will launch with its first three episodes, followed by new weekly releases every Wednesday.
Ackles, renowned for his role as Dean Winchester in Supernatural, takes on the character of LAPD detective Mark Meachum. The plot unfolds when Meachum is recruited into a secret multi-agency task force after a Department of Homeland Security officer is assassinated in broad daylight. As the investigation deepens, the murder mystery quickly morphs into a ticking-clock thriller that threatens to unravel national security in Los Angeles.
Countdown brings together an elite cast including Jessica Camacho, Violett Beane, Uli Latukefu, and Elliot Knight. The ensemble portrays a team of agents with mysterious backgrounds, many unaware of the full scope of their mission. For Ackles, Countdown marks a powerful return to Prime Video after his acclaimed performance in The Boys. “Working with Prime Video on The Boys was a fantastic experience, and I’m excited to continue that collaboration with Countdown,” Ackles shared in a 2024 statement.
Eric Dane, known for Euphoria and Grey’s Anatomy, also joins the project in a pivotal role. His participation comes after revealing his ALS diagnosis earlier this year. Speaking to People in April 2025, Dane stated, “I feel lucky to still be working and am excited to be heading back to the set of Euphoria next week.” His role in Countdown underscores his commitment to his craft and adds emotional weight to the project.
